Hope in the In-Between - Devotion 3
Where Does Hope Come From?
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day: ‘Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.” Isaiah 12:2-6
Where do you think hope comes from? I encourage you to take a minute and consider your real answer to that question. Do not give the answer that you think you should have, but the real answer that you live in your life.
It is easy to look for hope in so many places. I look for hope in how people respond to me. I look for hope in new shiny things that I own (I love my gadgets). I look for hope in my sports teams. I look for hope in my family. I look for hope at church. I look for hope in how I feel about myself. And yes, I look for hope in Jesus.
The obvious answer is that Jesus is the answer to every question, right? I mean, if you have grown up in the church or around any type of faith, the reality is that if you scream JESUS, He is almost always the right answer. You would be correct to say His name here as where hope comes from.
However, it is more than just knowing the answer. it is about living the answer.
In order to live as though Jesus is your source of hope, you have to understand and recognize all of the places where you are trying to find hope. So, if you just skimmed over the question at the beginning of today’s devotional, I will wait right here as you go back, stop, and seriously consider it.
Hope comes to you when you understand who Jesus is. He is your Savior, and He died for you. He was born to die. What a crazy thing to consider. He was born to die. everyone dies, but Jesus was born in order to sacrifice His life for us and to pay for our sins. He came to give us His life. He is the hope of the world and where hope is found in your day-to-day life.
How do you live hope? That is a great question, and I am glad you asked it.
I promise we will get to that on day five of this week. Today is about recognizing where you have been trying to find hope and grasping that hope is ONLY found in Jesus.
Hope has come, and it is not in any thing, possession, human relationship, or career. It is not found in good health or wealth. Hope has come, and the name of hope is JESUS.
