Family Advent Reading
First Reader: (Relight first candle.) Lighting a candle is a simple yet profound act. It is a testimony to the power of light over darkness.
First Child: (Light second candle.) As we light this second candle of Advent, we continue our journey to Christmas.
Second Reader: The second candle of Advent is called the Peace candle; as we anticipate Christmas, let us remember the birth of the Prince of Peace.
Second Child: Let us remember our need for a Savior to save us from our sins and give us peace with God.
First Reader: Psalm 27:1-2, 13-14 says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall...I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
Another Reader: People waited a long time to see prophecies about the coming Messiah fulfilled, such as this one from Isaiah.
Second Reader: Isaiah 9:6-7 proclaims, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”
First Child: Luke 2:13-14 records when Jesus was born. “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’”
Second Child: The Bible, God’s Word, reminds us that true peace comes from the Spirit of God dwelling within us.
Another Reader: Let us remember Christ’s birth, commemorate His death and resurrection, and anticipate His glorious return. May God grant us His perfect peace.

Thought for the week: “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
