There Is Always An Escape

Storm Damage • Devotion #1: There Is Always An Escape
Jared Bruder | Growth Intern

In life we experience storms. Some storms are out of our control, and others are a direct result of our actions. One storm that hits us in life is a storm called temptation. This storm can come out of nowhere and hits us in ways that seem like they may break us. In the Bible, Joseph experienced a storm of temptation. This storm came to Joseph while he was a slave in Potiphar’s house. This account is recorded in Genesis 39:7-8a that says, “And after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, ‘Lie with me.’ But he refused.” This temptation did not stop there for Joseph. We see in Genesis 39:10 that Potiphar’s wife came to Joseph daily, and Joseph continued to refuse. Then the storm intensified in Genesis 39:12 which says, “She caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me.” At this point, Joseph looked for a way to escape from this temptation, and he found it. The Bible tells us in the last part of Genesis 39:12, “He left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.” Joseph found a way of escape for the storm of temptation, and this storm did not break him.

One thing guaranteed in the Christian life is that there will be storms of temptation. Just like Joseph, we must find a way to escape. We are promised in I Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” We have been promised that there will be a way of escape. When we find ourselves going through a storm of temptation, we must look for the escape because we know there will be one.

In this life, God does not want us to fail. That is why He has promised with temptation that there will be a way of escape. When you find yourself in temptation and you feel there is no way out, do not lose hope. For God will always provide a way of escape. Look for and find the way of escape and you can endure and have victory over the storms of temptation.
