Serving Faithfully
Debbie Gabbara
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
Long before the gatherings begin on Sunday morning, volunteers and staff arrive at the River locations. Lights and sound equipment are turned on, people arrive with instruments, and others warm up their voices as the bands begin to rehearse.
I am blessed to serve at the Holly location with our Guest Services team alongside a group of incredible men and women who have the heart to serve others. They come early. They come when it is raining or snowing, and when the sun is shining bright. They come on the cold days and on the warm days. They come with smiles on their faces and in their hearts, happy to welcome you into our buildings, eager to greet the community that God brings to worship together.
Like other teams around the building, we pray together before the gatherings. We pray for each other, and we pray for the pastors that will share the Good News of the Gospel that day. We pray for those that the Lord will bring to hear the message and for lives to be changed. We thank the Lord for giving us the opportunity to serve others. It is a special time that we always make a priority.
The last part of Galatians 5:13 tells us to serve one another humbly in love. I love being part of a place that has so many faithful servants who come to serve others humbly with love.
It takes many dedicated servants to make a gathering happen. They greet our guests and church family, make coffee, teach kids, rock babies, lead us to worship in song, run cameras, put Bible verses on screens, and so many more behind-the-scenes tasks. I cannot think of anything more rewarding than serving God with others who love Him and want to share the joy that comes from serving Him!
“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)
