Awana is a midweek event at each River Church location. At the beginning of the school year, each RiverKid receives an Awana book. With the combined help of our team and parents, they progress through that book during the school year. The book helps parents disciple their kids in what scripture is all about while memorizing it and applying it to their life. It builds their spiritual foundation and helps the kids learn the answers to some of the largest questions in life.
The goal of Awana is to reach kids for Christ through fun, Scripture-rich experiences that lead them to know, love, and serve Him. Kids represent the greatest opportunity to make a long-term impact on our world for Christ. Awana serves as a resource to help the children fulfill their spiritual potential.
In addition to the mid-week event, Awana is an at-home resource to assist each parent in the discipleship of their children. It helps you teach your children how to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. We encourage every parent to work with their child through the curriculum at home multiple times a week.
Awana is for ages 0-11 with the groups for each age group being:
Nursery (0-1) – Babysitting for those who would like childcare while either working in Awana or going to one of our many growth communities.
Puggles (2) – A two-year-old class that provides a simple Bible truth presented with puppets, coloring pages, songs, and toys.
Cubbies (3-4) – A preschool class that provides a simple Bible truth along with scripture memorization. The children advance in their books as a group and earn awards throughout the school year. They also participate in structured games.
Sparks (Kindergarten - 2nd Grade) – Bible memorization is completed in these books at a group pace to earn rewards. A Bible story is presented, and the group participates in organized game time. Lessons are made to be age focused and at their level.
T&T (3rd - 5th Grade) – Bible memorization is completed in these books at a group pace to earn rewards. A Bible story is presented, and the group participates in an organized game time. Lessons are made to be age focused and at their level.
However old your child is at the start of the school year dictates what program they attend. For example, if your child is three on September 16th, they will be in the 3-year-old cubbies for the entire school year. Another example, if your child is not starting Kindergarten this year, they cannot be in Kindergarten Sparks. They would be in the 4-year-old program, cubbies.
Awana is Wednesday nights from 6:30p to 8:00p during the school year (holidays and predetermined weeks off, check the calendar for those dates). *Check-in will be from 6:15 to 6:30pm. The program starts at 6:30pm sharp.
If your child is 2 years old or younger, the program is free.
For 3 years old to fifth grade, the total cost for the 2020-2021 school year is $40/child. This price includes an Awana book for their age level (Cubbies, Sparks, T&T). It pays for prizes in the General Store that incentivize the kids to learn, seasonal supplies, and end of the year awards.
